Presentations and Tours for Classrooms
Ano Nuevo State Reserve offers discounted guided tours for school groups to see the northern elephant seal rookery during the winter breeding season. Reservations are accepted for tours from mid-December through late March. Reservations are taken beginning in October and sell out right away. $21 for a group of 20 students and 2 chaperones for a 2 and 1/2 hour, 3 mile strenuous walk. Elkhorn Slough Safari, is a 2-hour nature tour for grades 3-6 high school science classes aboard a 29-foot pontoon boat, departing out of Moss Landing. The cruise provides an in-depth look at the slough ecology, including sea otters, migratory seabirds and waterfowl. Call Captain Yohn Gideon at 831-633-5555 for reservations. Tour times vary according to the tides. Space is available for 23 students and two chaperones per tour.
