This charming town is located off Highway 1 near the Monterey Bay in Santa Cruz County. We hope that you get to experience this fun celebration in Soquel. Soquel is home to many wonderful people that live, work and go to school here.

Please feel free to email us to contribute information, photos, or stories to our site.

The image at the top of our web site is a photo of the Soquel sign that was originally hand-painted in the late 1970's. It was designed by Lee Blair, who was a well-know watercolor artist in the 1930's. He also directed animated movies for Walt Disney Studios, including Pinocchio and Fantasia. He retired to Soquel in the 1970's and designed the sign while he lived here. He and his wife, Mary, both passed away in the 1970's.

The original watercolor painting was saved by Judy Parsons who was instrumental in having the original signs made in the 1970's. The recent refurbishing of the signs for the Sesquitennial was accomplished by digitally photographing Blair's original art piece, then digitally imaging copies enlarged to the size of the existing signs. These prints were then mounted on a plastic substrate, cut to shape and appliqued on the signs by Ted Maddock.

The "old" painting on our web site has been digitally expandedon both sides, to better fit on the web page. We used artistic license and added a few poppies, lupines, and evergreen trees.
