The KIDPOWER Book for Caring Adults: Personal Safety, Self-Protection, Confidence, and Advocacy for Young People provides a very comprehensive entertaining description of the KIDPOWER program with 600 highly readable pages of stories and step-by-step explanations about what adults need to know and to do to prepare young people from toddlers to teenagers to protect their emotional and physical safety. There are over 100 pages on bullying prevention, as well as sections on protecting children from sexual abuse, teaching stranger safety skills, dealing with prejudice, and skills for children with special needs. As one mother of elementary school-aged children wrote, “For years I have struggled with how to approach the subject of safety with my kids, but haven't known how to do it without scaring them. The KIDPOWER Book is great because it makes it so easy. I just read the background information and then do the exercises with my kids. They find these activities interesting rather than frightening, and I feel so much better because I can see that they really know what to do. Thank you so much!” This book is available at the Bookshop Santa Cruz and on the website at www.kidpower.org, which provides a number of other resources as well.
